kinine kunnen een negatief effect hebben op bijna elk lichaamssysteem.De meest voorkomende bijwerkingen geassocieerd met kininegebruik zijn een cluster van symptomen genaamd “cinchonisme”, die tot op zekere hoogte optreedt bij bijna alle patiënten die kinine gebruiken. Symptomen van mild cinchonisme zijn hoofdpijn, vasodilatatie en zweten, misselijkheid, tinnitus, gehoorstoornis, duizeligheid of duizeligheid, wazig zien en verstoring in kleurwaarneming. Meer ernstige symptomen van cinchonisme zijn braken, diarree, buikpijn,doofheid, blindheid en stoornissen in hartritme of geleiding. De meeste symptomen van cinchonisme zijn reversibel en verdwijnen na stopzetting van kinine.

de volgende bijwerkingen zijn gemeld met chininesulfaat. Omdat deze reacties vrijwillig zijn gemeld door een populatie van onzekere omvang, is het niet altijd mogelijk om hun frequentie betrouwbaar te schatten of een causaal verband met blootstelling aan het geneesmiddel vast te stellen.

Algemeen: fever, chills, sweating, flushing, asthenia, lupus-like syndrome, and hypersensitivity reactions.

Hematologic: agranulocytosis, hypoprothrombinemia, thrombocytopenia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, hemolytic anemia; hemolytic uremic syndrome, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, petechiae, ecchymosis, hemorrhage, coagulopathy,blackwater fever, leukopenia, neutropenia, pancytopenia, aplastic anemia, andlupus anticoagulant.

Neuropsychiatric: headache, diplopia, confusion,altered mental status, seizures, coma, disorientation, tremors, restlessness, ataxia, acute dystonic reaction, aphasia, and suicide.

Dermatologic: cutaneous rashes, includingurticarial, papular, or scarlatinal rashes, pruritus, bullous dermatitis, exfoliativedermatitis, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, fixed drug eruption, photosensitivity reactions, allergic contactdermatitis, acral necrosis, and cutaneous vasculitis.

Respiratory: asthma, dyspnea, pulmonary edema.

Cardiovascular: chest pain, vasodilatation, hypotension, postural hypotension, tachycardia, bradycardia, palpitations, syncope, atrioventricular block, atrial fibrillation, irregular rhythm,unifocal premature ventricular contractions, nodal escape beats, U waves, QTprolongation, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, torsades depointes, and cardiac arrest.

Gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea,abdominal pain, gastric irritation, and esophagitis.

Hepatobiliary: granulomatous hepatitis, hepatitis, jaundice, and abnormal liver function tests.

Metabolic: hypoglykemie en anorexia.

Skeletspierstelsel-en spierzwakte.

nier: hemoglobinurie, nierfalen, renalimpairment en acute interstitiële nefritis.

speciale zintuigen: visuele stoornissen, waaronder wazig zien met scotomata, plotseling verlies van het gezichtsvermogen, fotofobie, diplopie, nachtblindheid, verminderd gezichtsveld, gefixeerde pupillaire dilatatie,verstoord kleurzicht, neuritis optica, blindheid, vertigo, tinnitus, gehoorstoornis en doofheid.
